AirBnB: Best Views & Location In Butte

Check-In Day: Saturday, July 16, 2022

Booked via: AirBnB

Check Out Day: Sunday, July 17, 2022

Purpose of Stay: It was night 2 of our 3 day drive back from Twin Lakes, Colorado. Just needed a good place to rest overnight. Hotels in the area were same price so a vacation rental with character is much better. (However, our general AirBnB and VRBO rule of thumb is you gotta book it for several days to make the cleaning and processing fee worthwhile. But for this location of Montana this place was simply better priced than a hotel in that we also had access to a kitchen.)

Rating: 5 stars

The perfect feel to this place. Would love to have stayed a whole day just to read and relax.

Absolutely love the feel of this space!

The creaky floors.*

The smell of the hallways.**

Old hardwood floors.

High ceilings.

Old structure mingling with the furnishings of modern design.

The views over a town that was once teeming with downtown life and could possibly once again. (Not saying it’s dead now, just thinking that it’s more muted now. There are quite a few abandoned buildings.)

5,991 properties on the historical register in the Uptown District. Whoa!

My 20 year old self would’ve loved to have rented a place like this. Perhaps it’s just really speaking to my European sensibilities.

Kitchen is fantastic. Pots with matching lids! This is a rarity in vacation rentals.

Dishwasher: YES!

I skipped using my big mug for coffee and used their “You’re on Mute” mug. (Perhaps more humorous to me as I didn’t have to live the whole “Zoom-life.” In fact, David had to explain the mug to me.)

A kettle to boil water: WOOHOO! Coffee for me, hot chocolate for the husband.

Mattress was comfy–not too stiff, not too soft–it’s a hybrid mattress.

We kept the air conditioner on low fan setting in the living room during the night, but only the window open in the bedroom. Perfect amount of coolness. And in the morning (as I type all this) just enjoying the sound of the birds outside, rumble of passing cars, and church bells (though, I’m not religious).***

Furniture is abundant and inviting and comfy! So many great reading spots.

Oh, how I wish I could stay here a week! (But, today is the last day of our 2.5 week road trip.)

About the Host, Dawn

Incredibly responsive. Detailed. Helpful. Has good recommendations in the guest book (and if you reach out to her she will likely have even more). I mostly geeked out with her about books. Really enjoyed interacting with her.

Cons? (And these are more like “What if” scenarios.)

–For those who can’t do stairs. Sadly, this won’t be a place for you to stay in. Lots and lots of stairs.

–I didn’t hear any noise while I slept, but I suppose if you are sensitive to cars going by you might be bothered. I dunno. I was dead asleep.

–Street parking is first come, first serve. I got a spot, twice, right outside so also a non-issue for me.

–Space around the bathroom sink is very minimal, but there is a cabinet above the toilet that you can stash your stuff in. You’ll just have to move the towels to another location. I find this to be a very reasonable workaround. So, again, a non-issue for me.

The ***

*Important note. This apartment is located on the top floor so you do get the benefit of only experiencing only your own creaky footsteps and not those above you.

**I liked the entry, 2nd, and 3rd floor smells. Not the first floor smells.

***We stayed here one night in July 2022 and it was 90+ degrees outside.

Notes about photos posted:

I took them around 7 PM in July so a bit dark. Also, I was tired from road tripping so snapped them just before we had our luggage contents explode about the place. The food condiments are all in the apartment MINUS the kefir and cherries (those were ours). Utensils, cutlery, and silverware were all clean. (It makes a difference when there is a dishwasher for guests to use. So many people are horrible at dishwashing by hand.)
