The Paris Apartment

Overview:

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Guest List comes a new locked room mystery, set in a Paris apartment building in which every resident has something to hide…

Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there. [Read more…]

Would I Recommend It?
Yes. It’s it will keep you guessing.

Thoughts?
I enjoyed it. It’s a good page turner type book. Love the quick chapters as it switches between characters. Not hard to follow. You get a good feel for each character quickly enough without having to think too much about, “who is narrating right now?”

I liked the French words and phrases interspersed throughout. Majority of them are translated. What isn’t, isn’t a game changer. Luckily, I had my French speaking husband to turn to for quick translations.

I reeeeally thought that the character who says the word that sounds like “koorvah” was gonna be Hungarian. But, nope. Turned out to be Albanian. Bummer.

I’m seeing a bit of a theme in Lucy Foley’s writing in the types of characters she likes to protect or speak out for. This not being a bad thing, but curious to see if this theme continues or if she’ll move away from it.

I do feel that for my rating it’s more a 3.5 stars. Only maybe because her book, The Guest List, was so, so, soooo good at the end and it kept me thinking about the characters. I don’t think I’ll think back much on the characters in this one.

And another author that restores my faith that women who are pregnant don’t lose their writing abilities. Whew!

SPOILER ALERT I’m also starting to get concerned for artists’ painting tools. Third mystery I’ve encountered recently where the artist’s tools are used in dangerous ways.
